Toddler Fun For Valentines Day

Bug and I have been doing little Valentines Day things together all week.  At 20 months old he has no idea what Valentines Day is yet, but he's always up for fun with Nana.

On Monday we decorated by making a window collage for the kitchen.  Attempting to do craft projects with a toddler is akin to wrestlin a piglet; it's loud, it's messy and he keeps trying to slip away.  Knowing this I plan quick little projects.

A piece of contact paper and tissue paper is all you need.  Attach the contact paper with tape at the edges; sticky side out.  He loved ripping up the tissue paper and was tickled pink that it was sticking to the contact paper.  About 10 pieces into it; the thrill was gone and he ran off to find his Buzz Lightyear.

Turn the contact paper around and stick it to a window and you've got a stained glass effect when the light filters through it.

His attention span is always longer when we cook.  He baked his first cake at 13 months old and he just loves to help me in the kitchen.  Chef in the making?..Perhaps!

On Tuesday we made heart-shaped sugar cookiesYumm!!

He cuts and sprinkles with love!

And..today we made Cherry Mini-Cupcakes.
1 pkg white Duncan Hines cake mix
1 can cherry pie filling
Pink frosting
Candy hearts
Mini muffin tin
Mini cupcake papers

Makes 48 Mini Cupcakes-perfect size for little hands.

Prepare cake mix according to package.

Blender is still a little too heavy for the little guy, but he gives it his best try.

VERY IMPORTANT!  Don't forget to lick the blender blades off afterward...waste not want not!
Set your oven to 350..fill your cupcake tins and bake for 5 minutes.  Remove and add one cherry to each of the cupcakes.  One little one in the middle is all you need.
Return to oven and bake 5 more minutes.  That's it..just ten minutes total.
When they've cooled, frost and decorate with candy hearts.

They are delicious and so cute!  We had such a great time making them...and we might have eaten just a few along the way.  It's important to taste test your cooking before you serve it!

I got this wonderful idea and recipe from Valerie over at Glittering Muffins.  I made some changes to the icing and decoration.  Thank you Valerie and Nico..these were wonderful!

Happy Valentines Day!

Your baking assistant is so cute! And I do think you may have a cook on your hands! I LOVE cherry pie filling and I'm thinking Amara and I are going to have try these. Won't have time for Valentine's Day but they would be fun anytime! Thanks for sharing.

They were excellent! The pkgs made about 56 little cupcakes. Enough for mommy and daddy and all the ladies at Nana's office. The cherries just really made it! Thanks for visiting.
